Buntoh-joh

There are many hot springs in Japan.
The biggest one is Beppu Onsen.
There are 2847 sources and the amount of hot water from there is about 137,000 tons a day.
Hikawa Maru at Yamashita Park in Yokohama city is 12,000 tons, so more than ten times the amount of hot water comes out in one day.
In addition, Shin Godzilla weighs 92,000 tons.
Beppu Onsen is really a big hot spring.

Well, let’s look at other famous hot springs.

Number of sources
· Yufuin 883
· Atami 531
· Hakone 290

Hot spring supply amount per day
· Yufuin 56,000 tons
· Kusatsu 39,000 tons
· Atami 26,000 tons

It is appropriate for Oita Prefecture holds Beppu and Yufuin to name “The hot springs prefecture”.

So how about Dogo Onsen?

There are only 29 sources (of which 18 are currently available!) and 2000 tons of hot water supply per day.
The oldest hot spring in Japan is also a very precious one.

In Dogo Onsen town, there is a place where you can see directly such the precious source.

Just north of Dogo Onsen Station, next door to Dogo Fushimi Inari Shrine is the “Buntoh-joh” No.4.

Buntoh-joh is a relay station of hot water collected from several sources and distributes them to Dogo Onsen Main Bld. and other facilities.
You can see the hot water drawn up from the six sources of 18 flowing vigorously through the window of this Buntoh-joh No.4.

In addition, you can touch hot water at the entrance.
It means that you can feel the “the source’s heat” of Dogo Onsen directly.

Please enjoy the oldest hot spring in Japan to actually touch with your eyes and hands in this place.
