Enman-ji temple

On the east side of the Dogo Onsen Main Bldg., a small street leads to Isaniwa Shrine.
There is a small temple on the way.

The name of this temple is Enman-ji.
“Enman” means “harmony” in Japanese.
As the name implies, this temple is said to have a benefit in “an encounter with good partner” or “a harmonious marriage”.

The picture is pictorial offerings called “Ema-tama”.
Four haiku formats are prepared in advance.
Enter your name and partner’s name in the blanks, and the haiku which means “having chance to meet a good partner” or “keeping a harmonius in couples” is completed.
People dedicate this to the temple as an pictorial offering and pray for its fulfillment.

This is a “knotted ball.”

People pray for “good marriage” by dedicating a ball that joins together the edges of the cloth.
Because the edges of something also has a meaning of Karma in Japanese character.

There are many items that improve the luck of relationships in this temple.
Actually, this “Yuno-oh-jizo” in the precincts of this temple is also known as “Jizo as removing the risk of fire” and is believed to protect this town from fire for long time.
Because of this effectiveness as “fire control”, it is said that it has come to be effective for “to stop cheating”, “an encounter with good partner” and “a harmonious marriage”

I do not doubt that anyone will be convinced of the prestige of “Yuno-oh-jizo” if they actually see it.
Please visit this temple when you come to Dogo Onsen.
