At Dogo Park, “観月祭, Kangetsu-sai” will be held every Saturday in the middle or the beginning of October.

In Japanese, “観” means viewing, “月” means the moon, and “祭” means the festival.
This is the autumn festival to appreciate the moon as its name suggests.

In the autumn, the air is very clear and the moon looks so beautiful.
It’s said that the origin of this festival was held during the Heian era.
When the age came down, it was overlapped with the autumn harvest festival, and it became familiar as “観月祭” widely in the Edo period.

By the way, Dogo Park was a castle called Yuzuki in the middle age.
Many dishes and cups have been discovered near the megaliths that leaves castle’s remnants.
